London – October 2014 – The ability to share large files has always represented a battle between users wanting to send information as part of their day-to-day tasks, and IT teams and service providers striving to protect overall email system performance.
This is why Egress Protect has always offered file transfer functionality as standard – and unlike our competitors, we do not limit file size, which means our customers are free to send documents and data of any size and format.
At the same time, we recognise that by making our software as integrated with Microsoft Outlook as possible, it is easier for our customers to use. We are therefore delighted to announce that the latest product release (v4.2) includes full large file transfer integration with Outlook.
This new functionality allows users to simply attach files (regardless of size) whilst remaining in their Outlook client. By clicking the ‘Attach large files’ button that sits on the top ribbon, a sidebar will automatically open on the right-hand side of the email field, allowing the user to either drag and drop files from anywhere on their PC or alternatively use the browse function to locate the chosen file from a specific folder. Then it is simply a case of selecting the necessary level of encryption to apply (as with any Egress email) and hitting ‘Send’ as normal.
Alternatively, the large file transfer function can be automated for users who would prefer not to use the sidebar option. In this mode, if a user adds a large file (size limit defined by the user) to Outlook, Protect automatically uses the transfer function to seamlessly send, making the process even easier. In either mode, a notification will only be sent once the files are successfully uploaded to the chosen storage location.
The new plugin offers the same security, tracking, auditing and reporting functionality that our customers have always come to expect.
Our hope is that by offering this fully integrated approach, large file transfer ceases to be an issue for organisations, enabling simple-to-use and efficient secure information sharing.
