London – January 2016 – Egress Software Technologies has announced updates to its secure file-sharing and online collaboration solution. Now featuring real-time online document editing, the latest release of Egress Secure Workspace further enhances public and commercial organisations’ ability to work together in confidence that all sensitive customer and corporate data remains secure and within their control. As one of the first solutions to offer real-time online editing within an encrypted environment, Egress Secure Workspace protects highly sensitive information while enabling teams to work together on files and projects. In particular, Egress Secure Workspace enhances collaboration between users as they don’t need to download documents or restrict editing to individuals at a time.
Egress Secure Workspace is used by enterprise organisations and government departments to create secure collaborative communities made up of internal users and approved third parties, able to share files and work together on joint projects. The latest release of Egress Secure Workspace enhances this functionality further to include real-time online editing of documents, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel files. Documents can be edited by multiple users simultaneously or by individuals, with all changes tracked within the documents and by sophisticated version control, as well as recorded in audit logs. Users can also be prevented from downloading content, meaning all editing can only take place within the secure community. All document formatting is maintained when files are both uploaded to and downloaded from a workspace.
In addition to online editing, Egress Secure Workspace also offers users chat and commenting functionality, covering all aspects of the collaborative process. These enhancements build on the product’s established functionality, including enterprise file sync and share, and flexible and secure access to workspaces across desktop and mobile devices. At the centre of all existing and new collaborative features remain robust information security measures, including sophisticated encryption key management, and control over who can work on documents and what they can do with them, such as downloading and printing. Comprehensive audit logs produced for both documents and workspaces also record when users access secured content and the actions they take with it.
As with previous versions, the Egress Secure Workspace remains free for organisations’ third parties to use, reducing cost overheads and ensuring that appropriate levels of security and control are applied to sensitive data throughout the lifecycle of shared information.
Commenting on the announcement, Egress COO Neil Larkins states: “Given the high-profile data breaches we’ve recently witnessed, both public and commercial organisations are increasingly looking to strengthen their information security practices, without impacting flexibility or efficiency. This is why, at Egress, we continue to innovate and develop our platform of encryption services to enable organisations to securely share all forms of electronic information – whether via email, online collaboration or file transfer.
“This latest release of Egress Secure Workspace is a continuation of this commitment to deliver leading-edge functionality that is underpinned by sophisticated information security measures. As a result, Egress Secure Workspace enables organisations around the globe to work together while ensuring sensitive customer and corporate data is protected.”
